THE GRAND TOUR - CAPE TO CAPE

Where classic car enthusiasts learn how to raise funding for Macmillan Cancer Support whilst driving their classics from one named cape to another over five days and staying in top class hotels every night

22 APRIL: FROM ULLAPOOL TO CAPE WRATH TO Ullapool

OS Map:

After a good breakfast in the Royal Hotel, Ullapool, crews will set off for Keodale - a good drive to get crews settled before the official start.

Cars will then be flagged away at one-minute intervals from Balnakiel in the far NW of Scotland. Entrants may enjoy a breakfast before setting off and heading for Cape Wrath if open.  It is an RAF Bombing Range, used by RAF Tornadoes, Typhoons and other NATO aircraft, and may not be open.

For those not familiar with this part of Scotland, and how many are? the only way to reach Cape Wrath is over a ferry and then a bus ride to the actual cape, a distance of about 12 miles. You will not be able to drive your car up there. For the aficionados of BBC's 'Coast' programme, the range has been featured fairly recently when the presenter went off with the bomb disposal team to blow up unexploded ordnance under the water alongside the rocky island used as a target. A very impressive bang!
