2012 NEWS
As I get snippets of information from Dennis (or anyone else, for that matter), I'll put them on this page to try to keep everyone up to date with changes and news.
- Starting from Cape Wrath on 22 April, there shall there be a 2012 Tour to finish, finally, at Cape Cornwall on 29 April. And a 'spectacular finish with closed roads and a classic car display in the city' to quote Dennis. The 'city' has not been specified, so I would hazard a guess it's Truro.
- The route for 2012 has yet to be finalised, however, night stops have been decided. These are currently on the daily pages, all ready to be completed as soon as Dennis lets me have details. Keep looking...
- As most readers will be aware, the regulations and entry forms have been circulated - and already 38 full and confirmed entries have been accepted. That implies that there are only 2 places left - so if you are hoping to participate, then please get your entries in as soon as you can. Or you may be disappointed. Or will Dennis expand the entry list?
- Dennis also tells us he is determined to break the £500,000 barrier this year - that's another £80,000 to raise. Sounds a lot, but if we have 40 entrants, then all each crew need do is raise £2000 each. Surely that's not too much trouble?
- Having completed the entrants list, the statistics are quite interesting:
- Cornwall - 22 entries
- Hampshire - 4 entries
- Devon - 3 entries
- Surrey - 2 entries
- London - 2 entries
- And single entries (so far) from: Somerset, Bristol, Scotland, Essex, Yorkshire, Hereford, Lincolnshire.
- And now the cars:
- 5 Porsches various 356, 911 and 912
- 5 MGs various TD, BGT
- 3 Morgans
- 2 Jaguar E-type Roadsters
- 2 Austins
- 2 Triumphs
- 2 Volkswagens
- 2 Mazda
- Single: Morris, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ogle, Lotus, Jensen-Healey, Mercedes-Benz, AC
- And 8 yet to be decided.

Another new addition for 2012. For the first time on a Cape to Cape there will be a back-up vehicle available to all for an element of mechanical assistance should it be required. This is courtesy of experienced rally competitors, Robert and Sue McClean, usually seen competing in their 1962 Rover P4-100.
